Dignity of Risk
Q&A Session
West Coast Premiere

Run Time: 15 minutes
Synopsis: Prof Joe, a geriatrician, is faced with a difficult decision when he finds that his elderly patient, Mr Jones, can no longer live safely at home. He decides to put Mr Jones in an elderly home to protect him from all the risks around him, but soon finds himself uneasy about his decision. This animation was created as a challenge – we didn’t have a budget to allow us to do something graphically beautiful, so would it be possible to explore these complex medical ethical issues in a story with an non-existent budget, relying only on pen, paper, sound and editing software? The aim of this animation was to focus on the craft and power of story telling – without any frills – to see if we could create an emotional story that delivers a powerful message with just pen and paper.
